We aim to provide the opportunity for each member of the sixth form to be given a work placement either in the local area, London or further afield. This gives our most senior scholars the ability to apply the theory they have learnt in the classroom to the workplace environment. Each placement is tailored to the subjects and interests of the individual student, so that when it comes to job or university application the Buckswood student has the edge…

Work experience is flexible and short term often lasting for one of two weeks, but the invaluable understanding and connections students gain will last much longer. In typical Buckswood style these are scattered around the globe, giving the scholars to chance to gain a wide variety of skills and contacts across many industries. This year’s placements include; two students at the marketing department at the Lottery of Montenegro, One at the Chinese Financial Institution, Accounting experience in Kazakhstan and Turkey, Insurance Companies in London and on the more unusual front, water-sports in Rye and a Photographic studio in Paris.

At Buckswood we have developed a network of opportunities for Scholars to ‘cut their teeth’ and gain valuable experience and insight into their chosen career path, for example someone looking to study events management at university will be given an placement in hotel or restaurant where the student can experience the industry first hand. For those interested in business we offer the chance for scholars to spend a week in the City of London, at the London Academy of Trading or with JP Morgan at their training centre in Bournemouth.

Running alongside our work experience programme is our ‘Enrichment and Engagement’ scheme in which we invite local businessman and women to attend conferences and lectures; giving scholars the unique insight into a variety of industries and future career paths and passing on valuable insights into taking their first steps into the world of work.
