At Buckswood, we schedule weekly debates in our Great Hall, often organised by our own debating society & chaired by the debating teacher.
Debating places emphasis on critical thinking, effective communication, independent research and teamwork, debate teaches skills that serve individuals well whilst at Buckswood & in future life, whether that be in the workplace, in political life and in fulfilling their responsibilities as citizens of democratic societies.
Model United Nations (MUN)
On a yearly basis we organise trips to London, New York & Greece to take part in Model United Nations conferences. Students travel from all around the world to discuss current global issues. Delegates come prepared to solve various pressing issues relevant to the 193 UN member states.
Throughout the term, our MUN teams meet to plan & organise their position papers for the upcoming MUN conferences. This involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
Buckswood scholars who attend the MUN conferences attain a greater understanding of their academic subjects at school. Each scholar can describe their MUN experiences in their UCAS statement, when applying for university, and on their CV.
