10 reasons as to why you should choose Buckswood!

Buckswood is an adventure and a journey, where the distance travelled is not measured in miles or kilometres but in memories and moments …

1 – Our strong philosophy

Buckswood School was founded 90 years ago. Today our educational philosophy, which we call our 12 pillars approach, is central to all that we do.

Our pillars encompass academic excellence, character development, leadership, and global citizenship, ensuring that every student receives a holistic education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the future. We review student performance each week, and ensure they are striving to gain achievement points in each of these 12 areas.

It is this holistic approach to education that will make a Buckswood student stand out from the crowd when it comes to the university and job interview selection processes – why? Because they will be interesting, well rounded, global citizens! Read more about our ethos here.

2 – The people

Our school staff are memory makers! We are blessed with a dedicated and passionate staff who come from 14 different counties and speak over 20 different languages. They go above and beyond to ensure the success and well-being of our students.

Each member of our staff plays a vital role in shaping the educational experience. Their dedication extends beyond the classroom, as they strive to instil values of kindness, perseverance, and lifelong learning in every student. Read about our core values here.

3 – Our Excellent inspection report

Our commitment to providing a high-quality, comprehensive education is reflected in our recent positive Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report. Praised for our academic standards, pastoral care, and extracurricular breadth, the report highlights why Buckswood is a leading choice for parents seeking an environment where their children can thrive academically, socially, and personally. 4 – Our success

At Buckswood, we champion a broader definition of success. Student achievement ranges from dominating the ISFA National Football Championships to triumphing in the ISA National Art awards, to 80% of students excelling with top grades of 9-7 in Further Maths. Moreover, our commitment to excellence is underscored by ensuring every Upper Sixth student secures a university offer.

At Buckswood, success is not merely academic; it’s a vibrant, multicultural celebration of talent and ambition. Read more about our students’ exam results and university placements.

5 – Sports academics

From Football to Horse Riding, Golf to Rugby, Buckswood offers specialised training for aspiring athletes under the guidance of expert coaches. Choosing Buckswood means joining a school where your athletic talents are nurtured alongside your academic pursuits, setting the stage for excellence on and off the field. 6 – Personal and flexible approach to timetabling

Our personalised approach to student timetabling sets us apart. We recognise that each student is an individual and has their own preferences, abilities, strengths and weaknesses.

We include independent learning sessions, personal educational needs sessions, UCAS, ESOL, music, languages, LAMDA and speech into timetables. If a student needs more English or maths lessons our timetable is flexible enough to include this. Read more here.

7 – BW Access time

The Access Time programme at Buckswood is unique, and a testament to our commitment to academic excellence and student support. This after-school initiative provides students with additional time to work with teachers, improve their understanding, and enhance their work.

It is a ‘free’ session and a time to get that little extra help, so that academic problems or challenges can be tackled that day, either 1-1 or in small groups. Read more here.

8 – BW Electives

Our Electives programme is designed to extend learning beyond conventional academic disciplines, developing both intellectual curiosity and career-oriented skills. Some schools call them ‘Clubs’, we call them ‘Electives’, as our students are serious about ‘electing’ what they want to do. This personalised approach ensures you’re not just a participant in your education but the architect of your academic and professional future.

Our electives are designed to complement your core curriculum, enriching your school experience with opportunities for deeper learning and self-discovery. Take control at Buckswood, where your journey is as unique as your destination. Read more here.

9 – BEAT (Buckswood Education and Travel)

Our BEAT programme embodies Buckswood’s spirit of adventure and exploration, offering students unparalleled opportunities to engage in adventure and travel. A Buckswood education goes beyond the classroom and into the great outdoors and is split into four areas:

  • Half term trips – so the Buckswood journey is seamless as there is no need to travel home for half term (Dubai, Hong Kong, Edinburgh and Manchester to name a few).
  • The annual Charity trip to Eswatini where we take roughly 30 students to our Lodge each year for two weeks of total immersion.
  • Weekday academic trips (London Museums, Brighton, Lake District, English Castles and more)
  • Weekend activity programme. The REST and SCORE programme – there is never a moment for a student to say that they are bored at the weekend.

10 – Our beautiful campus

We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. 90 minutes from London via a direct train, ensures that we are close enough to enjoy what is on offer in the capital, but far enough away to appreciate the countryside. We are 5 mins from the beach and 10 mins from Hastings. Our campus is an international village, safe, green and a great place for students to thrive!

Our student services department, The Hub, is an excellent resource for students to use and ensures their wellbeing is our top priority. Read more here.
