TALENT & INDIVIDUALITY

Every Buckswood student is an individual. They are not judged on the what they wear or the pocket money they have. Everyone is equal; we judge everyone individually on what is in their heart and in their soul, and from this we can work on developing and improving them. We instil into every scholar the drive to achieve results in whatever they do. We recognise that every scholar is an individual, born with a unique set of talents and abilities. We believe that every Buckswoodian is equipped with a rich portfolio of academic successes but also has the added benefit of a cultural and emotional awareness that empowers them to thrive anywhere in the world and seek opportunities wherever they lie. We recognise that talent comes in many different forms and not just in the classroom; and so we celebrate each child’s individual milestones because what comes easy for one, is an uphill struggle for another. By joining together (in assembly or on the sport field track line) and acknowledging achievements, our ‘family’ becomes a vast support network that encourages everyone to be the best they can be, in whatever field commands their talents. Succeeding in life is like training for a race, painting a masterpiece or discovering a cure for cancer. Success doesn’t come easily or overnight; it takes expertly guided preparation and a self -belief that anything is possible… As it says in our school prayer: ‘Let us remember that at Buckswood every child has a talent. It is our job to firstly find that talent and to encourage each and every child to be the best at what they do.

Here at Buckswood it is our responsibility to cast the net of opportunity so wide that any talent gets a chance to develop and to ensure that many of these talents should be just as highly ranked as academic scholarship. The concept of the average pupil must give way to the concept of an infinite variety of youngsters heading for an infinite variety of successes.
