The House System

At Buckswood, our House System is a cornerstone of school life, designed to foster a sense of community, camaraderie, and healthy competition among students. Each student is assigned to one of our Houses, creating smaller families within our larger school community. These Houses compete in a variety of events throughout the year, from sports competitions and academic challenges to arts and community service projects. This system not only promotes team spirit and pride within the Houses but also encourages personal development and leadership skills. The House system helps to integrate all school activities, enhancing the educational experience and providing every student with the opportunity to contribute to their House, making school life more fulfilling and enjoyable.

The junior years at Buckswood are viewed as the ‘formative years.’ We instil the values of hard work, respect for others, a sense of right and wrong, and an intrinsic internationalism into our junior scholars. We give them responsibility and a sense of independence but point out the parameters not to be crossed believing that children thrive on structure, security and opportunity.

Forms 1-3 provide a solid preparation for success at GCSE. They offer the scope to experiment: to go “off-piste” in academic terms, either down at the Buckswood stables as part of a science lesson or by standing knee-deep in an original World War I trench in Flanders with the History Department.
