MANNERS, APPROPRIATENESS, TRADITIONS
Please”; “thank you”; “please – you first” – old fashioned values, out of date values?
No, not at Buckswood.
When a scholar puts on their Buckswood school uniform they know the standards of behaviour that are expected of them. Through clear guidelines and clear expectations, a mature sense of worth, self discipline and good manners can be formed. Manners cost nothing but say so much about someone.
We have a programme whereby students have to step out of their comfort zone and have a go, preparing themselves for life… be it reading in assembly; preparing them for presenting in the future; to learning to dance (no one likes dad dancing at a wedding). Whatever it is, we want our students to feel comfortable in any situation. We promote the concept that scholars need to stand out from the crowd, need to be different, confident about who they are and know that they are their personal best. A Buckswood education teaches scholars not only to be confident but also to be persuasive and impressive in a public forum, to be a leader rather than a mere follower. We put the finishing touches to young ladies and gentlemen who leave with the panache to walk through any door, break down any barrier and flourish in their adult lives. This ‘finishing’ sees every Buckswoodian develop a decorum that is as at home in palaces as it is in a pauper’s home. A Buckswoodian commands respect and is respectful of others. Buckswoodians are as smart on the inside as they are on the outside in their striking gold trimmed blazers!
