For those that know Buckswood know that we have always strongly advocated that real education is about more than just exam results or lessons. It’s about shaping well-rounded young people who are ready to make their mark on the world. Our ethos, grounded in the 12 Buckswood Pillars, nurtures not only academic success but also personal growth, leadership, compassion, and global awareness.

To bring these values to life, we host Knowledge is Power (KIP) sessions for our form 5 and 6th form students eight times a year where they get the opportunity to learn from extraordinary individuals who embody the spirit of our school. Each KIP guest offers a living example of how knowledge, courage, and purpose can create meaningful impact in the wider world.

From a UK female kickboxing champion who speaks about discipline, focus, and strength, to a British Army officer who has faced twelve world challenges for charity, our speakers show that success comes in many forms. These stories of resilience and leadership remind our students that personal achievement is most powerful when it is guided by integrity, compassion, and service to others.

Our astrophysicist guest invited students to explore time travel and the mysteries of the universe, connecting curiosity with cutting-edge science. Meanwhile, a motivational speaker shared some insights on wellbeing and mindset encouraging our students to find balance, gratitude, and confidence in their journey. And when a former SAS commando recounts their experience rowing across the pacific ocean or an environmental innovator speaks of global sustainability, our students see the real-world application of adventure & travel, sport, ecology & sustainability, and internationalism.

But these sessions are much beyond just talks or workshops. They show our students that learning really does extend far beyond the classroom walls if they put their mind to it and work hard. By engaging with these inspirational figures, students learn that knowledge truly is power. The power to think critically, act compassionately, and make a difference. The conversations sparked in and after our KIP sessions ripple through lessons, discussions, and personal reflections, enriching the Buckswood experience and strengthening our shared commitment to shaping responsible, courageous, and global citizens.

At its heart, our mission is simple. We want to help every student be the best version of themselves. The 12 Buckswood Pillars form the foundation of that journey encouraging academic curiosity, physical health, creative expression, leadership, kindness, and environmental awareness among everything else. Through opportunities like KIP sessions, travel, sport, and community service, we build an education that goes far beyond books and exams. This is what we call a REAL education.
