Drama

At Buckswood, Drama is a dynamic and essential part of school life – where imagination takes centre stage and students from over 35 countries connect through the universal language of performance. With two timetabled lessons a week for younger years, students build strong foundations in confidence, communication, and creativity. As they progress, they explore a wide range of theatrical styles, from physical theatre and character work to directing and devising original pieces. Older students can work towards the Silver Arts Award from Trinity College London, further developing their artistic practice and leadership skills. A standout feature of our programme is the partnership with Strangeface Theatre Company, offering specialist mask-making and puppetry workshops that bring professional-level theatre into the classroom.

Drama at Buckswood flourishes across every aspect of school life. Students enjoy theatre trips, local arts festivals, visiting theatre practitioners, and touring theatre productions,  as well as the opportunity to take LAMDA exams in Speech and Performance. Our vibrant performance programme includes a senior production in the autumn term, junior performances in the spring, and the much-anticipated Buckswood Bloom – a celebration of creativity across Drama, Music, Dance, and the wider professional community.

In the summer term, a whole-school immersive arts initiative transforms the school site, allowing students from all year groups to collaborate on installations, performances, and departmental showcases. With a newly developed Drama classroom equipped with stage lighting, students gain hands-on experience in the technical aspects of theatre during lessons, developing valuable backstage and production skills.

We also offer both senior and junior Drama Clubs, ensuring that all students can get involved and develop their creativity, even if Drama is not part of their timetable. Buckswood is committed to nurturing young talent and inspiring the performers, storytellers, and leaders of tomorrow.

Here, Drama isn’t just about being on stage – it’s about becoming your best self.
