The Vineyard

At Buckswood, we pride ourselves on utilising every part of our estate to enhance our educational offerings, and our vineyard is a prime example of this innovative spirit. Nestled on a sunny slope along the South Coast, the vineyard not only takes advantage of the region’s favourable climate but also serves as a versatile learning environment for various departments.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Science: Students explore life cycles and the biology of viticulture.

Business: Pupils analyse the economics of wine production from costs to market dynamics.

English: The vineyard provides a tranquil setting for reading and literary inspiration.

Art: Students capture the beauty of the vineyard through photography, sketches, and paintings.

Viticulture and Production

Planted with the guidance of award-winning local winemakers Carr Taylor Vineyards, our vineyard thrives on carefully selected grape varieties. Each year, it yields approximately 750 bottles of Ortega dry white wine and 200 bottles of sparkling white. The production process itself offers students hands-on experience in agriculture and enology.

Contributing to a Good Cause

All proceeds from the wine produced are dedicated to the Buckswood Foundation, supporting our charitable projects in Africa. The wines are featured at our annual Sports and Speech Day, making fundraising both effective and enjoyable.
