The School Gardens
At Buckswood, we encourage our students to engage in gardening, recognising it as both a therapeutic and educational activity. Gardening allows students to connect with nature and develop a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the environment. It’s vital for them to understand that the food we consume—such as potatoes and various vegetables—doesn’t just appear in supermarkets; it originates from the earth and requires careful cultivation.
To further cultivate this understanding and promote healthy competition, each house at Buckswood has its own vegetable patch. Every year, these patches become the backdrop for a spirited competition, where students showcase their gardening talents and vie for the title of the best vegetable garden. This friendly rivalry not only encourages teamwork and collaboration but also instils a sense of pride in their contributions to the school’s ecological efforts. Through gardening, our students gain invaluable life skills while developing a lasting respect for the planet.
