Dr Demetradze – Head of Boarding
I have been part of the Buckswood family since 2009, serving in a number of roles in different countries as an instructional leader and manager. I have a Doctorate of Philology with more than 15 years of experience in the field of education. Previously I have been Head of Junior School and worked as part of the Senior Management Team at Buckswood Georgia. I strongly believe that every child has a talent and it’s our (Educators’ and Parents’) responsibility to find this talent and to be the best they can be. I live at Buckswood with my daughter who is currently studying for her A Levels. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, reading, collecting antiques, learning new languages, dancing and singing.
Mr Field – Head of ESOL
I have worked at Buckswood as Head of ESOL since 2004. Among my professional interests are assessment, academic writing, learner agency and first language interference. Married with two grown-up sons, I spend my free time eating, travelling and doing my best to stay fit and healthy – I particularly enjoy trekking in the mountains in Japan.
Mr Samson – Principal
I have worked at Buckswood since 2008, having previously worked in the United States in education since 1997. I have an international background, having been born in New Zealand, growing up in Hong Kong and attending boarding school in England from the age of 9. I believe in the importance of international education and am committed to helping each pupil become the best possible version of themselves by developing themselves, guided by the 12 pillars. Outside of school I am married with two sons and enjoy spending time travelling, farming, swimming, kitesurfing, kayaking, hiking, running and chopping logs!
Mr Shaw – Academic Principal
I have been at Buckswood since 2007, when I started as a Geography teacher. As a child, I always liked going to school, but the inspiration to teach came from my GCSE and A level Geography teachers. Studying ‘Human’ aspects of the subject such as population and development fascinated me and this knowledge was imparted by enthusiastic teachers I really looked up to. I love working at Buckswood – where we hold simple values in high regard; where staff and students say ‘hello’ when passing each other and can speak from a position of mutual respect. It is a small thing but says so much about our values. Outside of school I enjoy a range of sporting activities, spending time with my young family and am a lifelong supporter of Nottingham Forest Football Club.
Mr Terrell – Designated Safeguarding Lead
I have been at Buckswood since October 2022, having previously taught at grammar schools and high schools in Kent for the past fifteen years. I am thoroughly enjoying my time at Buckswood, working in a beautiful setting with the great range of personalities and cultures an International School brings. Outside of school, I enjoy keeping fit, taking part in physical challenges, spending time with my family and our friends and, following as much sport as I can get away with!
