General School Manners
At Buckswood, good manners are valued not as mere formalities but as genuine expressions of respect and consideration for others. Here’s what we expect from every Buckswood student to ensure pleasant and respectful communication:
Basic Politeness: Always say ‘please’ and ‘thank you,’ as these small words make a significant difference.
Respectful Presence: Stand when a staff member or visitor enters your study area. Continue working if you’re in the library unless approached directly.
Polite Etiquette: Always hold doors open and check behind you to prevent them from closing on someone else. On stairways and in corridors, make room for others to pass without pushing and apologise if you need to walk through a conversation.
Audience Conduct: During concerts and performances, enter or exit only between pieces to show respect for the performers and consideration for the audience.
Friendly Greetings: Smile and greet people warmly. Offer assistance to visitors and, if needed, escort them to their destination.
Engaged Conversations: Avoid speaking with your hands in your pockets when talking to adults.
Proper Correspondence: Learn and use the correct forms of address in written communications and responses to invitations.
Courtesy in Movement: Yield to staff in corridors, greeting them appropriately with a “Good Morning” or “Good Afternoon.”
