This club exists to introduce students to the world of short-term trading and longer-term investment, using a number of different financial instruments, including derivatives.
The group, which meets at lunchtime each week, is comprised mainly of older students, many of whom are studying economics, accountancy or business, with a view to university entrance to continue their studies in these subjects.
Through their education in this fast-moving world of profit and loss, the students are introduced to a number of investment and trading techniques, using price movement and technical analysis.
While individual shares within the FTSE 250 and the US markets are a principal feature, the students, in addition, become acquainted with the world of currencies, contracts for difference, options, commodities and index futures.
When the students meet, they watch their tutor place positions using live accounts with brokers IG Markets and IG Index. It is an exciting experience for the budding investors to watch the markets moving in ‘real time’ around the world and then discussing the news likely to be affecting market movement.
Former members of the club have furthered their interests in investment and the financial markets, first ignited at Buckswood, and have gone on to open their own investment accounts as young adults.
