I studied History at the University of London, Goldsmiths'College, where I gained a BA Hons.
I gained a PGCE, also at London University. I have taught in three large comprehensives, two of them in south-east London, the other in Kent.I have been Head of History at Eltham Hill Technology College and Southlands Community School.
I also spent several years teaching secondary children with behavioural and health problems, in an off-site unit in
London Borough of Greenwich.
.Whilst at Eltham Hill Technology College, I was one of a group of teachers who won a cash award for helping the school to become one of Britain's "Most Improved Schools".
I have worked voluntarily as a teacher-advisor to the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich and Greenwich Local
Museum.
I have been a GCSE examiner of History, and A-level examiner of Government and Politics.
I am the mother of four daughters, all of whom have been through the school system, so I understand education from a
parent's point of view.
