Who is who?

EFL - The Global Language This department is accredited by:
Integration Programme

Buckswood was originally founded as an English school in the early part of the 20th century, but since the 1980s has been recognised across the world as a centre for internationalism. We have students from all continents on one campus, a truly global community, living together and learning from one another. Integral to an international student’s programme is English as a Second Language.

All international students must achieve a minimum level of English Language fluency before entering the main school, and they will then continue to have EFL lessons and sit Cambridge International Examinations. It is possible to come to Buckswood to study an intensive English Language Programme from a month’s duration to a year within our EFL Department. An EFL student’s formal language work is complemented by regular study visits and multi-media learning.

Each Buckswood EFL student is rigorously coached & monitored with progress tested & reviewed on a weekly basis. Our expert staff place each EFL student on a personal study path, targeting certain Cambridge Examinations as benchmarks of progress. Buckswood is accredited by the British Council.

Greville Field

I have been a teacher for about 18 years in the UK and overseas and hold a Masters in Linguistics. In addition to my position as Head of EFL at Buckswood, I am an examiner for IELTS and Principal Examiner for Cambridge Advanced. The EFL programme at Buckswood is very much based around progressing up the ladder of the Common European Framework for languages. The department prepares learners for the KET, PET and FCE exams 'in school', IGCSE in Form 5 and IELTS in the 6th form, which our international student need for application to university. Students are very familiar with these exams, and motivation is high as they appreciate the importance. Consequently, results are very good indeed - two girls currently hold the school record of 8.5.
