What we guarantee Buckswood's Sixth Form will offer you:
A wide choice of academic subjects
Solid academic subjects which form a coherent A Level package for entry to the UK's top universities.
Sixth formers still part of a wider school community
Yes, you will have senior status and certain priviliges – but you are still part of the school – of the “family”.
A structured, timetabled day
Registration followed by lessons, meals and supervised prep.
Weekend work in each subject
The competition will be tough – we need to get you “in shape” academically to compete with the very best. Weekend work will be handed in on Monday morning and marked by Thursday.
A Group Tutor to see you 1:1 each fortnight
It is important to have a good working relationship with your Group Tutor who will see you 1:1 each fortnight for an extended meeting to discuss progress.
Supervised Sixth Form Study Centre for quiet work
You will have Study Periods during the working week and these will be profitably spent in the SFSC which is a supervised quiet area for self-study and reading of journals and periodicals such as The Economist and Time.
Two university visits in the Lower Sixth
You need to start thinking seriously about university in your Lower Sixth year not just your Upper Sixth. To assist you we organise two university visits for our LVI in the Spring and Summer Terms.
Access Time
This daily access to your tutors after lessons is vital for re-inforcement and personalised assistance.
Saturday "booster" sessions
Tutors call extra sessions on Saturday mornings to ensure that coursework and syllabus targets are being met by all.
May half-term revision programme
Before the major summer exam session we offer an in-house revision programme with your tutors in all major subjects.
Stimulating study visits to the "Bric" countries
It was a Goldman Sachs observer who coined this acronym for the emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China. These countries will continue to grow rapidly and will be dominant players in the global economy within two decades. Students will have first-hand access to their importance through a series of Business Management visits organised by Buckswood, the “Bric Trips”, the first of which is in 2009 to Russia, including visits to Russian Capital Bank and the FSB (former KGB) building. The second “Bric Trip” will be to China in 2010.
